I welded in a piece of flat steel in the lower edge of the foot box opening. This was the last piece needed for supporting and mounting the curved aluminum foot box cover.

After putting on all the pieces, the passenger side foot box is almost done.

Since the 1″ x 1″ square tube will probably be visible, I cleaned it up using a grinder with a flapper disc and orbital sander. I had to do this a couple of times after filling in nick and low spots with some welds.
